ADULT COURSES
COMING SOON*
If you’ve never had the chance to learn climbing from scratch, our instructed courses are the perfect place to start.
We understand that beginning your climbing journey can feel daunting, so we believe starting with the absolute basics is key. That’s why we’ve chosen the NICAS (National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme) framework, which is widely acknowledged as an excellent introduction to climbing. Originally designed for kids, the NICAS scheme is now recognised as a great way to also help adults learn the ropes by offering a structured, step-by-step progression to help you build confidence and skill on the wall.
The NICAS program is spread over 3 levels, each building on the one before. You'll be given logbooks and certifications as you go, allowing you to track your progress along the way. While we recommend starting with Level 1, if you’re not a complete beginner, you can skip a level and jump straight into Level 2.
Level 1 – New Climber: An introduction to roped climbing, focusing on developing the basic skills to climb safely under supervision.
Level 2 – Foundation Climber: Teaches good practice for climbing and bouldering, helping you gain the confidence to climb unsupervised on artificial walls.
Level 3 – Technical Climber: Refines technique and movement skills, preparing you to belay and climb safely at any climbing facility—whether with supervision or independently. This level is roughly equivalent to a GCSE pass.
In addition to learning vital climbing skills, these courses are a brilliant way to meet new people and start your climbing journey alongside others.

U18 COURSES
COMING SOON*
At Mount Palace, we're very proud of our under-18 climbing courses.
As one of the first climbing centers in London to offer NICAS (National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme) courses accredited by the Association of British Climbing Walls, we’re committed to providing a comprehensive climbing experience that combines skill development with lots of fun.
Unlike bouldering-only centers, all of our sessions are led by Mountain Training certified roped climbing instructors. Our group sizes are small—just 4 climbers per session for 5-7 year-olds and 6 for 8+—ensuring personalised attention and a supportive environment. Our classes blend rope climbing techniques with bouldering, with a focus on safety, progression, and enjoyment. We aim to help young climbers build confidence, strength, and teamwork skills.
The NICAS syllabus spans four levels:
-
Wild Climbers - (5-7yrs+): A fun, game orientated programme that aims to introduce climbers safely into the indoor climbing environment
-
Level 1 – New Climber (8yrs+): An introduction to roped climbing, focusing on developing the skills to climb safely under supervision
-
Level 2 – Foundation Climber (8yrs+): Encourages good practice in both climbing and bouldering, helping climbers gain the confidence to climb unsupervised on artificial walls
-
Level 3 – Technical Climber (8yrs+): Refines technique and movement skills, preparing climbers to belay and climb safely at any climbing facility—either with supervision or independently. This level is roughly equivalent to a GCSE pass.
We group our classes by age, so while all climbers in the 5-7 age group will be working on the Wild Climbers level, those in the 8+ sessions will be mixed with some on Level 1 and others on Level 3 depending on their individual development.
